Sparrow: First Attempt

Description

The other day, I saw this super cute amigurumi sparrow online and I HAD to try one. The one I found was really sweet and little, but I wanted to try something a bit more detailed, so I went on this big color-changing extravaganza. I usually don't do much color-changing like this and I wanted to try it out.

I'm happy with the design, but as you can see, the twisting is awful. The face isn't lined up at all and the stomach design slants all the way around. The black on the face can easily be embroidered on afterwards instead of switching colors while working the piece, but there's got to be a secret about the twisting. I might try it again, changing the count on the body colors so every row adds more tan to compensate for the twisting, but I'm not sure it will work the way I want it to. Any Amigurumi Gurus out there have a solution to this problem? Crochet Connoisseurs?

It was a fun learning experience; I never really realized amigurumi twisted like this. I would expect the body to twist since I added increases on the back side to make it puff out more, but the head is increases in regular intervals, I wouldn't have expected it to look the way it does.

He measures about three inches tall, which is pretty small for me! I like it!

your sparrow is incredibly adorable :D I know what you mean by the twisting problem.. I hate it too and I'm still trying to figure out how to work with it. I end up putting a lot of projects aside when color changing is involved because that twist is such a turn off for me ^^; Sometimes I think it helps when you increase on one side of the color change (from your picture, I'd say when you're working on the right side of the sparrow where it curves towards the midline) and maybe decreasing by one colored stitch from the other side. It sometimes works and sometimes doesn't though.. I usually just eyeball and tweak accordingly >_<
