Description
After about five days worth of intense crocheting, maybe around 24 hours worth of on-and-off work, I've finally finished him!
After seeing Into Darkness on Memorial Day (purely for the sake of Benedict Cumberbatch, I didn't think I'd really enjoy the movie. Big mistake) I decided that I really liked this "Star Trek" thing and wanted to watch the Original Series episodes. This was a terrible decision. I spiraled into a dark abyss of obsession, and in order to relieve myself of these pent-up emotions, I had to create something. It always happens. Thus, Spock was born. It was only logical.
I was very nervous about crocheting a person. I'm so used to making animals that have stocky bodies and four, sturdy legs to stand on that the thought of a person was extremely daunting! After Googling different designs, I went into this project pretty blindly. Very blindly, actually. I had very little idea of how he would turn out.
New things I tried:
-How to make a nice layered look with clothes. Got the idea from this amazing Sheldon Cooper pattern! [link]
-Making hands with fingers (pipe-cleaners inside)
-The neck and soles of his boots are reinforced with plastic canvas. That stuff is so amazing, I want to use it all the time.
-Adding blush to cheeks and ears with fabric paint (It's a very faint green, but it's there!) I got a dab of fabric paint, mixed in a little water, and dried off my brush until only a trace of paint was left. Now I want to paint everything.
He's about 16-17" tall. The arms are wired, the legs are not. I have about six useless ear prototypes and one hand strewn around the family-room coffee table. I had planned to make a pattern, but around the legs, it became so un-precise that I really couldn't. But I'm planning to try another human-type just to try it out. I have no plans of selling him, maybe if my love ever wears off. I'm really happy with him!
I had Nimoy in my head, but he's really giving me a Quinto vibe... Not sure how that's possible. Either way, I like both.
I'm a poor photographer. -__-

I just love the one raised eyebrow, nailed it. He's adorable!
